Following a warm start
European Ski resorts able to reopen

The warm winter across Europe forced some ski resorts to close over the New Year, but is this now changing?

Many ski resorts recently had to close, due to a lack of snow and unseasonably high temperatures, especially for lower altitude resorts.

Temperatures reached over 20C across parts of Switzerland and Germany over the Christmas period.

As of January 20th, three resorts in the Northern Alps remained closed, as did four in the Southern Alps. However, recent snowfall has meant that some ski resorts are now announcing plans to reopen.

The German ski resort at Fichtelberg, Saxony has newly reopened, as seen in the video footage above. Popular Alpine resorts such as Val Thorens reopened on the 17th, though they still had one slope closed.

You can stay up to date on the situation on the slopes through our brand new and improved Mountain and Skiing conditions, inside our app by searching for your chosen location.

The feature will then appear as a ski icon on the top right of the page, which, once tapped, will take you to all the details you need.

It will show whether a ski resort is open, the current snow depth, current conditions, and plenty more useful information right at your fingertips! More information is available right here.
