Trio of supermoons to end the year

The first supermoon for almost a year rises Tuesday evening, the first of three between October and December.

October's full moon is referred to as the Hunter's Moon, this year, as it is the closest to the September equinox it is the Harvest Moon. The full moon also coincides with our lunar companion's closest pass of Earth in its orbit, making it a supermoon.

Rising from around 08:20 pm, visibility will be best found in eastern Scotland and central areas of Ireland, amid cloudy skies elsewhere.

At a time of a supermoon, the moon will appear around 14% larger and 30% brighter overhead than a usual full moon.

Following this, two more supermoons will lead us into winter. First, the Beaver Moon on November 5th, and the Cold Moon on December 4th.
