Mount Etna in the snow

Europe's highest volcano turns white again, with snow 1600m above sea level on Mount Etna.

Mount Etna, on the east coast of Sicily, Italy, is often seen with both snow and lava through the winter months. The images create a stark contrast in nature, of its beauty but also destructive power.

You can see this from the video footage above, but also on the satellite imagery below where the bright red lava flows out against the pure white background. There is also a harsh boundary line in the snow on the volcano, as snow can often be very altitude driven.
