Get a head start on spring sowing

Watering potted plants on a windowsill.
A warm, bright windowsill offers the chance to kickstart the year's sowing.

Green fingers and itching to get started on this year's plants? There are some options available.

Although things are warming soon, the cold, frosty nights of February are not ideal for planting fresh fruit and vegetables.

Despite that, you can get a head start on spring on the windowsill! These options can be grown indoors in a warm, bright area:

  • Tomatoes
  • Peas
  • Carrots
  • Leek
  • Kale

Some hardy options can already be planted outdoors, for example radishes, garlic, and some herbs can handle the cooler weather if covered.
