Facts about Autumn you might not know

Child plays in autumn leaves

Meteorological Autumn arrived on September 1. Here we want to give you some fun facts about Autumn that you might not know.

The leaves on the trees are not just green. During the autumn, the cooler weather stops plants from producing chlorophyll which is a green pigment. The green colour then fades, giving way to more autumnal colours such as red, orange, and brown.

The varying shades of reds, oranges, and browns on the trees during autumn is actually related to sugar content within the leaves. The redder the foliage, the greater the sugar content.

Those born in Autumn months are more likely to be taller, smarter and more athletic than those born in any other season. You are also more likely to live to the age of 100, although you are also 30% more likely to suffer from asthma.

Finally, for any readers that are superstitious, catching a falling autumn leaf will bring one month of good luck!
