Multiple new highs
June records rise after verification

Temperature map of the UK and Ireland highlighting verified June temperature records, with 38°C in England, 35.1°C in Wales, and 30.8°C in Ireland, alongside a background map of June temperatures across the UK.

A number of new June records have been confirmed by the Met Office, with the UK and English June record higher than previously thought.

When new potential records are measured, they are always recorded as provisional. Now, many provisional records have been replaced by even higher temperatures.

RecordTemperature
UK & England daily high38°C, Lingwood
Wales daily high35.1°C, Hawarden
Northern Ireland daily high30.8°C, Castlederg
UK & England highest daily low23.2°C, Hastings
Wales highest daily low22.7°C, Tenby
Northern Ireland highest daily low19.1°C, Murlough (joint)

Those replaced include a 37.7°C recording from Lingwood which was incorrectly recorded.

During the verification process, weather stations are inspected and the individual recordings also undergo a quality control check, including comparison of nearby stations.

Also replaced is the Welsh high, previously reported from Cardiff Bute Park, the verification process revealed that the weather station at the site was no longer fit for purpose.

Similarly, a recording from Eastbourne was rejected after the site check found grass around the station was overgrown and nearby interferance was too high to be accurate.
