Cooler, wetter and windier
Autumn is setting in across Europe

T-shirt weather and mild autumn days will soon be a thing of the past across much of Europe. From Thursday, a warmer jacket will be needed again in many places, and an umbrella too.

From the Netherlands and France, through Germany and Poland, right to Hungary, temperatures will drop by up to ten degrees. Temperatures will generally only reach 12 to 18°C, and at night will often be below 10°C. Rain and strong winds may also make for difficult conditions on the roads.

WeatherRadar: Conditions are set to become unsettled in Central and South-Eastern Europe over the next few days.

In parts of Italy and the Balkans, conditions could even become dangerous: there will be localised, heavy thunderstorms, with up to 200 mm of rain falling by the weekend.

Roads can become flooded and impassable within a short space of time, basements can fill with water, and streams can swell into raging rivers. Allow extra time for journeys, avoid flooded roads and keep an eye out for severe weather warnings if you happen to be in the area.
