Contrasts in Europe
From late summer to storm warnings

Europe is currently experiencing stark contrasts in the weather. Whilst fog and cool autumn air are forecast in many places, holidaymakers in south-western Europe can look forward to plenty of sunshine and temperatures of nearly 30°C.

In Portugal, in particular, October still feels almost like summer. It’s the perfect time to really enjoy a coffee in the sunshine.

The situation is quite different in the eastern Mediterranean. From Greece to the south-east of Turkey, there could be heavy downpours and thunderstorms. There is even a risk of localised flooding.

Things are also getting pretty rough on the Adriatic: the bora winds are sweeping across the Croatian coast in places with gusts of over 60 miles per hour. Anyone still on holiday there should keep an eye on the weather warnings and any possible restrictions on ferry services.

WeatherRadar: Severe thunderstorms are forecast for Turkey and Cyprus. The Bora is blowing strongly along the Croatian coast, on the WindRadar below.
