Breakfast brief: Mild in Ireland as rain and snow spread

A freezing start on another gloomy day, but milder in Ireland despite incoming rainfall.

The overcast gloom remains in place today, with some sunny spells in central England and Wales. Throughout the day, rain moves over Ireland into the evening, where widespread rainfall prevails amid gusting winds.

Similarly, over Scotland, snow is set to fall over higher ground this morning, expanding by the evening.

Temperatures reach double-digits in southern Ireland, up to around 11°C in the south-west, in the UK it remains chilly particularly for the morning commute with below-freezing lows likely result in frost.
