Arctic air brings chill to early autumn

Temperature radar of the UK and Ireland showing temperatures in the single digits as Arctic air moves over the countries.Thursday morning sees temperatures drop further due to arriving Arctic air.

The arrival of Arctic air is pushing temperatures down across the UK and Ireland from Wednesday, below the September average.

Temperatures are between 4 - 7°C cooler this week compared to the long-term average, with showers accompanying the colder air arriving from the Arctic.

The difference in conditions feels much harsher due to the quick turnaround from highs reaching 28°C on Friday, and the presence of blustery winds adding to the chill. Warmer conditions are expected to return by the weekend.
