Waves of sea fog roll clouds pushed into Pembrokeshire in recent days, creating a unique summer scene.

Pictured from Fishguard, the shot from south-west Wales shows a scene most commonly seen in late winter to early spring, but can occur at any time, including the height of summer!

It is more unusual at this time of the year as sea fog form as warm air passes over the cooler waters below. With ongoing heatwaves, the water is hotter than usual, but still cool enough for the fog to form, particularly for Pembrokeshire.

In July, the Celtic Sea often remains relatively cool compared to summer air and is particularly susceptible to moist southwesterly or westerly air from the Atlantic creating sea fog, also known as haar in the UK.

If there is a strong high pressure system in place, such as that responsible for the elevated temperatures, convection is suppressed and air is forced to subside, resulting in more robust fog.
