Record-breaking temperatures in Delhi

Temperatures in Delhi, India have soared to their highest ever, with a staggering 52.3°C.

For 16 consecutive days since 13th May, temperatures have exceeded 40°C, and for the last three days, over 45°C. Mungeshpur hit a record-breaking 52.3°C, while Najafgarh recorded 49.8°C.

The record temperatures were broken on Wednesday 29th May, with the peak temperature recorded at around 2.30 pm local time.

A severe heatwave alert has been in place for days already for Delhi, amongst many other northern and central states. Delhi is known to be susceptible to the early arrival of these seasonally hot winds, exacerbating the current heatwave situation.

Nights also remain excessively warm at 30°C, with a slight temperature drop forecast between 30th May and 2nd June, albeit only by a few degrees.
